Homemade Pizza (including sauce)
My husband requested homemade pizza to be made for his birthday yesterday. It was my first attempt, but it turned out pretty good. At least he seemed to like it.
I ran out of white flour so it's almost half white, half wheat. I think it made the crust a bit heavier, but it was still good!
The sauce was quite good, it had a little bit of a kick to it at the end, but nothing overbearing.
I double both recipes when I made them as I made 2 pizzas.
Sauce
Ingredients:
1 6 ou. can tomato paste
6 ou. warm water (about 110 degrees)
3 T grated parmesan
1 t minced garlic
2 T honey
3/4 t onion powder
1/4 t dried oregano
1/4 t dried marjoram
1/4 t dried basil
1/4 t ground black pepper
1/8 t cayenne pepper
1/8 t dried red pepper flakes
salt to taste
Directions:
Mix all ingredients. Make sure to break up any clumps of cheese. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes to blend the flavors.
Pizza
Ingredients:
1 package active dry yeast
1 c warm water
1/2 t salt
2 t olive oil
3 1/2 c flour
I also used a bit of garlic powder and oregeno
About 1 T cornmeal or bread crumbs
Pizza Sauce
Your choice of toppings
Mozzarella cheese
Directions:
I used my KitchenAid mixer to make the dough, so I'll go with those directions.
Dissolve yeast in the warm water in mixer bowl. Add salt, olive oil and 2 1/2 c flour. Attach dough hook to mixer and set to Speed 2 and mix about 1 minute. I also added a bit of dried oregano and garlic powder to taste.
Continue on Speed 2 and add remaining flour in 1/2 cups and mix until dough clings to hook and cleans sides of bowl, about 2 minutes. Continue for about 2 minutes more.
Place dough in a lightly greased bowl, turn to grease top. Cover, let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 450.
Pound dough down with your fist. Use the cornmeal or bread crumbs and spread on pan or pizza stone to prevent sticking.
Place dough on pan or pizza stone and press dough around pan, forming a collar around the edge to hold the toppings.
Spread on desired amount of sauce, toppings and cheese.
Place in oven for 15-20 minutes.
